SmartCar electronic traction control killing a carful of people in Oklahoma OK USA
including an on-air meteorologist from the Weather Channel.
They were near a tornado. The tornado did something extremely unusual and unexpected. They needed to get away from it fast.
As they tried to run, the wind would pick up their car enough that one wheel would lose traction and spin, so the electronic traction control would apply the brakes. The car was a rental and they didn't know how to disable the feature. Every time, they had to slow down to almost a stop to disengage it.
The tornado picked up the car, elevated it, accelerated it, and threw it into a field. The car skipped across the field, leaving big gouges in the dirt each place it hit. When it stopped, every exterior body part was destroyed. Everyone inside was dead. The police officer who found the vehicle later found a video camera hundreds of feet away from the car. The camera had recorded their last minutes.
